Johan Louw has designed a 2010 Africa pendant to celebrate the exciting year ahead and all the possibilities it holds
The 2010 Africa Pendant is a unique fusion between traditional hand drawn design and computer technology. Johan teamed up with leading computer designers from the Cape Town university of Technology to create a never before seen blend of the two design philosophies, the end result a three dimensional relief of the African content. This three dimensional relief of the African continent is what sets it apart form the readily available two dimensional maps of Africa that are in retail circulation currently. The design symbolizes Africa rising from the sea, a new age of progress that lies ahead.
Johan chose to manufacture the pendant in silver to keep the costs down. A small diamond is set at the tip of the Africa pendant to represent Cape Town.

Uwe Koetter, owner and founder of Uwe Koetter Jewellers, was born in Hamburg, Germany where he studied and qualified as a jewellery designer. His design for his qualifying exam piece won him the first prize of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in 1958. With confidence, Uwe ventured to southern Africa shortly afterwards, working first in Windhoek and then Cape Town.
In 1968 Uwe and his wife, Magda, founded the company. At that stage, individual designs and handmade jewellery were virtually impossible to obtain in South Africa. In the trade, only mass-produced pieces were available. Right from the beginning, Uwe Koetter Jewellers held steadfastly to a philosophy of designing uniquely customised quality pieces along with a first class personalised service to a steadily growing number of clients.
In 1980, Uwe Koetter incorporated the indispensable and highly acclaimed skills of brother-in-law Johan Louw, who many people have named the most gifted and creative designer in southern Africa. From an early age, Johan would spend many hours in Uwe´s factory where he developed a love and talent for jewellery design. After completing a degree at Stellenbosch University, Johan joined the family business. His true talent and love for design has manifested itself in the many jewellery design awards that he has won over the years, adding much acclaim and prosperity to the company.Uwe Koetter Jewellers has consistently grown from strength to strength employing more highly-specialised goldsmiths, gemmologists and graders. Proudly, Uwe Koetter Jewellers (and all who have made this company so successful), have claimed a place amongst the top jewellery manufacturers in southern Africa.
